Around 5-6 calls on an average per day were made / received by a user. A slightly higher number of calls were made by Males as compared to Females. Females send and receive slightly more number of SMS than Males. Also, No. of SMS received more than SMS sent.

Voice Calls & Messaging have high reach & are highly engaging. Connectivity apps like bluetooth, WLAN etc. have high reach but low share of usage indicating there is a scope to enhance experience of these apps.Chat apps have high duration- need to work on generating reach. Voice mails & Emails are used by limited set of respondents and for low duration indicating a need to popularise these & make them more user friendly.

While males mostly talk for less than a minute when they receive a call; females spend anywhere between 2-3mins on 9% of incoming calls & 3-8mins on 7% of incoming calls.

While outgoing calls which last less than 2mins is more in case of males; calls which last for longer duration (between 2-17mins) is comparatively more in case of females. Failed call percentage is very high across.

Over the 8-month period, overall active communication time has increased by 27% - this is mainly due to 45% increase in the non-verbal communication time in the form of messaging & chat. Time spent on verbal communication is almost the same. In fact, messaging & chat have surpassed calling since Dec’09.
